Teen Pregnancy: It's Everyone's Problem
|
Teen Years Are For
Planning Your Future NOT
For Having a Baby
|
-
Teen pregnancy is a problem that affects the parents, the
baby, other family members, and community resources.
-
A teen is much more likely to become pregnant if her sexual
partner is significantly older than she is.
-
Teens who become pregnant are LESS likely to finish high
school or get early, adequate prenatal care.
-
And they are MORE likely to live in poverty or near-poverty;
be single parents, or to divorce if they do marry; have premature,
low birth weight, or very low birth weight babies; have babies
with birth defects; have babies who die before age 1; abuse or
neglect their babies, and have another baby within 2 years.
Birth rates for ages 15-19 years:
2001: 46.8
2002: 49.3
2003: 41.0
2004: 37.9
