In Milwaukee, at the 2003 NACo (National Association of Counties) Conference, Sutter County, along with other distinguished counties, was recognized for its achievements in advancing digital government. An award was presented to Sutter County by the Center for Digital Government that was also sponsored by the National Association of Counties, Government Technology Magazine and Microsoft.

This award was based on a national survey conducted by the Center for Digital Government. Sutter County tied for second place along with two other counties for the under 150,000 population category, and was the only county in California in its survey category to place in the top 10.
