Microsoft 5th Annual Government Showcase Award Winner
For each of the past 5 years since 1999, Microsoft Corporation has selected a few outstanding public
sector information technology projects for special recognition. The Microsoft Government Solutions Showcase Award
recognizes "an exemplary solution for the public sector" and is Microsoft's way to salute a government organization "for demonstrating
a highly effective and innovative use of information technology in performing its mission and providing
superior service to citizens." These annual awards are presented at the Government Technology
Conference in Sacramento.
This year in 2004, Microsoft recognized Sutter County for developing the Property Tax and Records
Query Extranet Project. After 18 months of planning and 9 months of development, Sutter County
went live with the Property and Tax Records Query Project in April of 2004. The long awaited solution
to a frustrating organizational issue that crossed between three different departmental systems with data
on two different technology platforms, was primarily designed to assist external customers who have high-volume
transactional needs with Sutter County. The project was completed on-time and under budget, and is
considered a huge success.
Awards were presented to Bernadette Kucharczuk, Dave Miyachi and Jeff Barton. Bernadette was the Director of
the Information Technology department and was the key individual to get this project into motion and
provided administrative leadership and guidance throughout. Dave is the Systems Analyst Supervisor for the Sutter County
Web Technologies Group and provided the technical leadership, analysis, design and prototype for the project. Jeff
is a Programming Analyst for the Web Technologies Group and was the principal developer for the project.
The latest Microsoft .NET technologies were employed for the project implementation and have proven to be an effective
development and deployment platform.
