Voting in Sutter County precincts is conducted by qualified Precinct Officers (Inspectors and Clerks) who are appointed by the Sutter County Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters.
Precinct Officers are responsible for conducting the voting in strict accordance with the voting laws of the State of California.

If you meet the requirements and are interested in being a Precinct Officer, print out and complete the Precinct Officer Application. Mail it to the address provided on the form and our office will contact you, by telephone or mail, when we need Precinct Officers in your area.
Requirements
A Precinct Officer must:
- Be at least 18 years of age or be a high school student that is at least 16 years of age and in good academic standing
- Be able to read and write in fluent English
- Available to work on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. until all duties are completed
- Attend a mandatory training class prior to each election
- Have transportation to and from the training class and to the polling place on Election Day
Duties
The duties of Precinct Officers (Inspectors & Clerks) include:
- Prepare, open and close the polling place location
- Locate voter names on the roster
- Issue to and receive from the voters, an activator card
- Assist voters in any phase of the voting process
- Perform all required duties assigned by the Registrar of Voters or Precinct Inspector
In addition, the Inspector must:
- Be in charge of a polling place and its Precinct Board on Election Day
- Assign duties to Clerks on Election Day
- Accept and check election supplies and availability of polling place before Election Day
Reimbursements
Inspectors:
- $125 for the day
- $20 for attending each training class
- Mileage reimbursement for returning supplies
Clerks:
- $90 for the day
- $20 for attending each training class
