If you have been the victim of a crime or have witnessed a crime, the Sutter County Victim Services Program can help you.
The Victim Services Program is dedicated to helping alleviate the trauma and devastating effects of crime on the lives of victims and their families. Victim Services staff can help you address the practical problems and complex needs of victimization and make it possible for you to reorganize your life and heal in the wake of crime.
The office is a program of the Sutter County District Attorney and is funded by a California Emergency Management Agency (CalEMA) grant.
The Sutter County Victim Services Program provides advocacy to victims of crime as they go through the criminal justice system. The office assists victims and families apply for reimbursement for medical, counseling, and funeral/burial bills; provides appropriate referrals; and assists with emergency needs of victims. Each year the office assists hundreds of crime victims and processes thousands of dollars in compensation claims.
Victim Advocates provide direct services to the victims. Some of the mandated services that advocates provide are crisis intervention, claims preparation assistance, and resource and referral information. Advocates are also available to provide orientation to the criminal justice system, court escort and support, and follow up counseling.

Victim Services Include
- Crisis intervention, court accompaniment, emotional support, and information during the court process
- Resource and referral information for counseling services
- Advocacy for victims within the criminal justice system
- Assistance in applying to the State Board of Control Victims of Crime Program for reimbursement of crime related expenses (medical/dental, mental health counseling, relocation, wage/income loss, support loss for dependents of a deceased or disabled victim, and funeral/burial expenses)
- Resource referral for assistance in obtaining emergency services (such as emergency shelter and/or relocation)
- Assistance in preparing victim impact statement for sentencing
- Information about victims' rights
- Temporary Restraining Order assistance
Witness Services
- Arrange transportation and lodging for out-of-town witnesses
- Notify witness of time and place of judgment and sentencing, upon request.
