Medi-Cal

Medi-Cal is the California version of the Federal Medicaid program. The Medi-Cal program provides health care coverage for eligible residents of California.

Who may be eligible for this program:
Low-income adults, families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, children in foster care and former foster care youth up to age 26.

County Medical Services Program (CMSP)

County Medical Services Program (CMSP) is a county funded program. CMSP provides temporary health care coverage for eligible county residents.

Who may be eligible to this program:
Low-income adults, ages 21 to 64, who are not eligible for Medi-Cal, Covered California, or Medicare.

Application Process

Once a completed application is received and reviewed additional verifications may be needed that cannot be verified electronically or are questionable. You may receive a follow- up phone call or letter requesting additional verification(s) or clarification, please note the phone # calling out to you will display 1-877-652-0735.
You will receive a Notice of Action (NOA) in the mail. This will let you know if your Medi-Cal application for health care coverage has been approved or denied.
If approved for Medi-Cal you will receive a Benefits Identification Card (BIC) in the mail that you will present at time of service if a BIC has not been previously issued to you.

At initial approval of Medi-Cal you will be covered under Fee for Service also called regular Medi-Cal. You will receive a health care coverage plan selection packet from Health Care Options if you are to select a Managed Care Plan. You have 30 days to select a health care plan, if you do not select a plan, a plan will be assigned to you.

If some or all applicants are not eligible to one of the Medi-Cal programs you will be auto reviewed for Covered California eligibility during open enrollment or if there has been a life change event. If eligible to Covered California, further communication will be sent to you from Covered California.

If approved for CMSP you will receive a NOA and BIC in the mail that you will present at time of service if a BIC has not been previously issued to you. You will be certified for CMSP health care coverage for a period of 6 months.

Keeping Your Benefits

To keep your Medi-Cal current and active you need to report household changes within 10 days including informing our office of current contact information. To continue your Medi-Cal benefits an annual renewal must be completed, if further information is needed you will be contacted by phone or by mail. If you receive a request for further information, please provide as quickly as possible but no later than the due date indicated on the paperwork you receive. If you do not provide necessary information your Medi-Cal will be discontinued, and you may need to reapply.
